Best tires size for a set of 15'' Fuchs 9J and 11J
 

Hi guys, I have a wide body project, and looking for perfect matching tires for a set of 9J & 11J Fuchs.

I saw in many posts, for front, recommended size is 225/50, or even 215/55. For me, this sound difficult to fit on 9j and, as I saw also on Michelin webpage for example, none of those sizes are recommended for 9J.

What tires do you guys have on such set of Fuchs?

Pretty tough finding 1988 tire sizes in 2018. What look are you after? The RSR look and the 930 look are a little different. I've been running those sized wheels on widebodies for decades and have a set of 345/35-15 Pirelli if interested in that look. They are a bit wide for an 11" rim but were commonly used back in the day. Shoot me an email if interested.

The michelin tb15 215’s work on the 9s and the 295’s on the 11’s. I use the 215’s on 8’s and also used them on 9’s.

You are going to limited to
Pirelli P7 Corsa Classic, or Michelin TB5 or Michelin TB15

The TB15 has a poor selection of sizes
the 18/60 which is nominally equivalent to a 215/55 is spec'e for a 6 to 7.5" wheel, it's a real stretch to put it on a 9
the best match here is a 23/62(270/45) front and either a 26/61(295/40) or 29/61(335/35) rear.

The TB5 range is similarly handicapped
the 18/60(225/50) is specced for a 6 to 8" wheel, again a big stretch to fit on a 9
best match here is 23/62(270/45) front and 29/61(335/35) rear.

Pirelli P7 Corsa Classic has better matches
the 225/595(235/45) front and 305/35(305/35) rear would be best choice here

The 215 is wider than you think. It still bulges over a 8" and is near flush on a 9". The 270 is a taller tire at around 25.7" vs the 215/295/335 which are all around 24" tall. To me, the 335 is too wide for the 11" rims. I use the 335 on 13" wide rims. The photo is a tb15 295 on a 11x15"

I just go by the manufacturer's spec, Seems to me they ought to know what's best for their tires.

Additionally, 215 front w/ 295 or bigger rear is a mismatch in width and grip

Is track day car, 74' period correct and specs are from Carrera RS. I know RS was with 8J and 9j on the rear, but we decided to go for wider 9 and 11 combo.

For 11j, I think 345/35 are too wide. I would prefer 285 or 295/40 for rear.

Based on producers, 225/50 (TB5) is maximum for 8J, and 215/55 (TB15) is maximum for 7,5J. But if you said is alright also for 9j, why they limit the usage? Very strange for me.
Do you have a picture for those 215 on 9j?

If you are looking for period correct the '73 2.8RSR w/ 9 & 11 x15 ran 230/600 & 260/600

the 3.0RS on 8 & 9 ran 215/60 & 235/60

that means, the closest I can go with current tires from the market are 225/50-15s and 285/40-15s.

I'm still not sure if I can use 215/55. Waiting the picture, or other confirmation...

You could also go TB5, 18/60(225/50) & 23/59(265/40)

the 18/60 is spec'd for 6 to 8" wheel, and is still a stretch on a 9, but still better than the stretch for 215 onto a 9.

I personally wouldn't go more than .5" over spec.

Can Hoosiers be used
they have 245/40 & 275/35 x15 which would be perfect for track use, not so much for road use.

I think that the 23/62 looks odd, it is the same size or larger than the 26/61 so when mounted on the front it looks odd being larger than the rear tire. I have a new set of the pirellis on the black car, but have not been able to drive it enough to give an opinion on performance, but I will say that the overall size of the tire diameter is smaller by about an inch.

The red, blue and orange cars are all TB15 18/60 front and 26/61 rear on 9&11 inch rims
The black car has the new pirellis but I do not know the size and will not be back home until next week

You'd need to ask Michelin about their tire specs.

The last shot is a 215 on 8's. Tread width is 7.750", side wall width is 9.875".

What do you know about Pirelli Cinturato P7 Classic? Did you saw or use this type? I'm interested to see if these are also good for a track day car.

This is a BIG surprise for me, but a good one :)

Good to see a refreshed conversation about this. Seems like the ever-shrinking market of 15" and wide tires is always a hot topic. I would like to bump this up, if you don't mind.

I would also like to add the question to the topic of how we feel about any of the discussed tires for normal road use. I've always liked the TB5/TB15's and seem like they would be decent, but always wondered about the compound and how long they would actually last on something driven regularly.

I have not driven the pirellis enough to know

A friend of mine is running the tb15 on an ST style car and has 7-8K miles and the rears are ready for replacement. He has had the car on track a handful of times with the
r-gruppe

TB15’s barely made it 5,000 miles (no track miles). Seems acceptable\ expected for this type of tire.

Current (Oct 2018) problem is replacing them, appears TB15 26\61 are discontinued and only similar option is the TB5(R) 26\61. Anyone know different?

There is the Hankook Ventus H101 in 265/50-15.

Unfortunately, no matching sizes for a front. It is 10.4" wide, so it will work with a 10-11" rear wheel.
