Post Webasto Heater

OK I've got one of these things, and it looks to be all there, but not currently operating...nor do i think I want to...is there any reason to try to get it to work, or should I rip it out...I am thinking leave it for originality, but would like to at least disconnect it to manage avoid any future problems...what have others of you done?

I agree with you. Gas heaters are dangerous mommas! Do you plan on going concours with your car? You know, where the judges stand around & talk about bolt head stampings, while they read your car's Kardex? If you don't plan such a path to hell, I'd suggest ripping the mother out. But do it in such a manner that you can sell the unit to somebody who is still young enough to give a damn what the "authorities" of the Porsche world think. Merely experience typing here...

Heaven's no....I have ZERO councourse aspirations...and though I am learning to love the car, realistically there is nothing special about it that would merit the pain of preparing for such scrutinization...plus I am pretty sure it would be cheaper to heat my house by burning 10 dollar bills this winter than to create the perfect garage queen...just want a solid, reasonably correct driver...just trying to figure the best course, should I keep the heater? Who buys these things and for how much, it looks to be in great shape...

I'd suggest removing it as carefully as you can, saving all the correct bits and pieces you don't care about. Label and "document" all, then place an ad in PANORAMA and see what develops. It's all a compromise...this "correct" vs. what you want in a car. My vote goes to the what you want side. This coming from a guy often complimented on his "original" '72 S. It's just that I've reached a stage (age?) in life where I really no longer care about what the PCA "experts" think, but can remember a time I was young & dumb enough to care. This make any sense?

If I pull this sucker out, anyone no of anything I need to cap off? If its gonna go, I think i want all of it out so I don't have the extra stuff laying around up there corroding over time...I really need to find someone to copy the factory manuals for me, that might help with figuring these things out.

Chris, Pelican Parts has a whole portion of its website devoted to parts diagrams, like the one for the Webasto Heater:

The only thing you will need to cap off is the fuel line that runs to the heater.

Perfect, looks as if I can also remove the extra hoses and refit single line hoses to the fresh air blower as well to maximize airflow.

Hello

The Units can be rebuild to work again and maybe you offer it on the marked to someone who needs it. If the car came factory equiped with the unit I would keep it for concours or later resale.

The webasto heater was a key part for Porsche rally victorys. And so it deserves the same respect like spoilers or dual plug ignition

Grüsse,
Roland
