Rough idle
Another bonehead mistake. Car was running alittle rough at idle. After 15 seconds of investigation discovered the oil cap was gone. It's probably sitting on top of a Chevron gas pump 50 miles away. Does the oil need to be changed immediately?

Many have done this or not had the cap on correctly. Look down around the rubber engine sealing flap; the cap may be there. Unless it was really dusty I doubt you pulled much dust through into the oil but on the other hand oil and oil filters are pretty cheap and if you're near the end of a change interval I'd put new oil in this weekend. I can't see why you'd need to change the oil any sooner.

I did the same thing the night I was driving my car home from purchase. what I do to make sure I don't loose the cap in the future is place it on the right rear engine mount. That way if I forget to put it back on, at least it is still there when I remeber.
I would go ahead and change the oil and filter, cheap insurance. ------------------ Matt Chamblin 78 911 SC |
Thanks for the reply. Looked around the engine bay, cap is history. A new one is on it's way. Probably should have ordered two.
