Canadian 911 Boneyards

Looking for a Canadian boneyard that might have a Canadian speedo head for my 86 Carrera.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...Tim

hi Tim, wouldn't the Canadian speedo be the same as a European version ( Km per hour ) ...if so, someone that converted a euro car to US spec may have one. Max

I wanted to do the same thing (switch speedo to km/hr) but wasn't sure if you could simply do the swap and it would be accurate. Can you?

I believe the European speedo heads are only metric where the Canadian head looks just like the US head except with km and kmph as the primary display and mph as the secondary display.

Only one part number is listed for the Canadian head (non-turbo) from 84 to 89, so they should be interchangeable. I'm not sure about the earlier ones.

Thanks...Tim

Good luck, I haven't found any yards that carry Porsche stuff. I think any wrecked cars are bought imediately by independent shops and scavenged for parts. You are probably better off looking on e-bay for someone who brought in a euro car and had to convert it to MPH.

Or send it to one of the speedo shops in the States and have it recaliberated.

Hi Tim,

There is a wrecker in Calgary that I called (I will try to find the name) that says they do (sometimes) have 911's. It really depends on demand so they say. The guys told me to call back in the spring.

I would check with the guys from BC as well as they have soooo many 911's out there I'm sure they must wreck a few

My 79 non-euro only has Km on the speedo.

Tim, I'm planning to put white faced guages on my car before Spring and I'm thinking about getting some small black numbers on clear tack to place at the appropriate spots (50, 80, 100 Km spots) for my reference points? Should work?
Food for thought? Anyone try this?
How do the white faced gauges light up/illuminate at night?

THere are no wrecking yards in the SW BC area with wrecked Porsches - ask me how I know - I get quite a few used parts for my SC through this board though. Shipping is cheap. Good question about the straight swap from a US mph speedo to a Euro kph speedo. I'd like to do that if it works.

Thanks for the lead on Montgomery. But now I'm going to be tempted to buy that C4 motor

Thanks all for the help and suggestions. Sounds like our country is sadly deprived of wrecked Porsches.

The search goes on......
