I will be adjusting my valves on an 85 911 for the first time. Are the silicone gaskets worth the money and do I have to replace the nuts/washers with new ones? Thanks,

i use the green ones from Pelican and they work great. Can't remeber the price, but only like $15.
Yes you do have to replace the nuts and washers. ------------------ Matt Chamblin 78 911 SC |

Dan,
I have been using the silicone valve cover gaskets for about two years. They have worked very well (i.e. no leaks) for me on my '84 Carrera. One note of caution, once you have them installed, you must be very careful when you remove them for subsequent valve adjustments. You can easily snag one on a stud and rip the gasket, thus defeating the purpose of reusable gaskets. Matt is correct, you should replace the valve covers' nuts and washers each adjustment. Another caution, be very careful handling the nuts and washers, because you do not want to drop one into the spark plug openings. Bruce |

I use the cheap (grey)ones from Pelican. They come with all the hardware you need. No leaks, no problems.

i only use the gray ones at my shop. they are thicker, and somewhat softer than the green ones, and will conform to a slightly irregular valve cover better.

I purchased red ones from Automotion that are made in the USA. They are thick and have given me no drips.
