CA Bay Area-Valley Porsche Roads

Anyone in NorCal ever driven Del Puerto Valley road?

It runs from Patterson at I-5 towards Mt Hamilton and Highway 130, into San Jose.

Looks nice a twisty road. Any one ventured out there? Good bad, ugly?

Oh yeah... I have been there. I have fond memories and not so fond memories.

Each time was on my motorcycle on the way to Yosemite. The first time I rode it I came around a corner and hit a chipmunk and slid out the rear tire. The bike lowsided and I ended up with some nasty roadrash.

Otherwise, this is an incredible road. It connect to Mines Rd. which is just outside of Livermore. I think it would make a nice overnighter. Mines Rd to Del Puerto to the Yosemite Hills. Camp out in a Porsche Round up and chat Porsches over an open fire.

Del puerto does go to patterson off of the I-5 but if you stay on mines road that road leads you to mt. hamilton.

you can go up mines road off of livermore and head all the way to mt. hamilton observatory then drop down to san jose by alum rock road off of the 680 freeway.

the road that leads back down to alum rock is really tight and twisty.

the whole loop is about almost 100 miles. nice drive.

I drove it last summer. Very very nice drive. Diverse landscape too. What I wouldn't give for a ranch out there....

San Antonio Valley (Hwy 130 near Mines Rd) is the most beautiful valley in the bay area, IMHO.

Thanks for the feeback. Sounds like a good road to go check out.

I could be up for it sometime. As long as you don't mind waiting up for a 356! ;-)

I hang out at EASY alot so maybe I can get some of them to make the trek down here.

Still, there's something about getting out and driving alone...

Happy driving!

Yeah.. I agree going solo does have its pleasures.. I tend to be more spirited when by myself..especially when I get paired up with corvettes
I don't know what it is about those vette guys. and when I'm with my wife it seems to be more relaxed and easy going. Driving in goups is fun as hell, admiring other cars, talking it up and can't forget the food and beverages..

Nice windy, tight twisty road. I went up there with my mini cooper and it was nice on the tight turns. We went up the San Jose side and drop down to Livermore. I might take my 911T next time.

Sunday Morning Coffee...?

I know it isnt Mines Road or Del Puerto either but anyone interested in a simple get together this coming Sunday? I will be making a breakfast run and whoever is interested please come on out. Lets meet at the following... rain or shine.

Highway 1 at the Half Moon Bay Airport Restaurant. Nice parking lot to hang and check out each others cars. Breakfast is also pretty decent. I get out of the firehouse by 8am so I will be there by 0915.

After that a nice drive south to Alices would be cool. Btw... Alices is the premier motorcycle hangout for the SF Bay Area. Maybe even all of Northern California. On a nice Sunday this place is packed with an easy hundred bikes of all kinds. Some nice sports cars make their appearance too. If interested please let me know so that I will maintain these plans. There are a few other great places for breakfast in the area. Duartes in Pescadero or Alices Restaurant at Four Cornres is great too.

For anyone who hasn't made that loop, it is awesome and you will see very few cars on most days. (especially on Del Puerto Canyon Rd.) For those wanting to air the p-car out, here's the route: Take 580 out to Livermore, exit at N. Livermore and head south, it turns into S. Livermore, after passing the new Livermore Civic Center (City Hall, Police Dept. Library Complex) Turn right on Mines Rd. (about 5 miles out and before you get to Del Valle Resevoir, Mines Rd. makes a left turn - watch for it) Make the left turn and pretty soon you will be on some great twisties. 25 miles out you will come to the Junction Cafe, a fun place to stop for a sandwich or something to drink. Usually there will be lots of cafe racers to look at the Junction. Right after the Juntion Cafe you will make a left turn onto Del Puerto Canyon Rd. Another 20 some miles of twisties and great scenery. Del Puerto ends at Highway 5. Head north on 5 and you can either go back to 580 or you can get off at Corral Hollow Rd. and take some more twisites back into Livermore. Why be in a hurry - take Corral Hollow back.......

Oh....and watch out for the bicycle riders on Mines Rd. (cause I might be one of them)

Going up Mt. Tam Is a blast. Many turns where you can slip the clutch and pitch the car in a perfect 2 wheel drift. Down hill is hard on the brakes. The ride from stinson beach to Olema is also a blast. Great sweepers, some nice straights and plenty of turns. Pavement plays a big part in my mind and the roads around my neck of the woods are great. Going from Muir woods up to four corners is also a blast. A perfect set of turns to setup your swaybars.
