There is a flasher relay behind the driver side dash.

Does the flasher work with the 4-way switch on?

You do have the ignition turned on when trying the turnsignals, correct?

the relay for the indicators is less than a 30 minute job and you should be able to find it by simply going into the front trunk. my indicators spazzed out and worked only intermittently for a while before the relay finally gave out completely. if you do a search of the forums you will find threads with all of the pictures and instructions you will ever need.

While the flasher may be your problem, you could actually troubleshoot the problem vice just guessing. What do you mean, "the high beams work but not the lights in the off position"? Did you expect lights to work in the "off" position?

Do your turn signals not work, your hazard lights...or both? What about your brake lights? You need to check each of these to properly troubleshoot.

hey fred!!! thanks for the good trouble shooting points the blinkers have always worked as well as well as the brake lights .... only recently the blinkers quite working ...the headlights won't flash while pulling back on the blinker switch with the lights turned off and with the headlights " on " the brights work while pushing forward and flash while pulling back but no flash with the lights in the " off " position ... I have purchased a used blinker switch and have pulled the steering wheel for a recent recover nice job by Craft Customs in Texas , quality job and 2 week turnaround ....haven't replaced the switch on the column as I didn't want to get under the dash for the connections ... just a time thing .... I hope the new blinker relay will correct them both ... just one step at a time to quote Mr. Zimmerman " shinny side up "

The reason I ask is that the turn signals and the hazard button both use the flasher...but different circuits in it...and both have a different wires/circuit and different fuse. You can only do turn signals with the key on...but the hazards should work without the key. If one works endnote the other, that tells you it is probably a fuse or a wire in that circuit.

The problem with the bright lights is a common one...and is usually the stalk...but not always. It can usually be repaired. There are a couple threads here that describe doing so if you do a search.

Since you have headlight issues as well, you should probably take a look at the bulkhead connector under the dash that passes through the firewall. if you look, you can see the wires from the turn signal going to it. It sometimes gets loose. It just plugs in...so if you just push it in...that will often fix some of these problems.

Look to see if fuse #11 is blown and that it makes a good connection. Remember you need your key on for turn signals.
