rubbing noise when steering is turned to maximum

I am new at this so I will give it a try. I have an 85 930 and whenever I turn the wheels to the maximum(left or right) there is a rubbing sound coming from the steering. Has anyone had the same experience??? Happens when turning into my garage or parking space. I would really appreciate any help!!

Well, my tires rub on the inside on the inner fender/frunk metal when I turn the wheel all the way one way or another.

Thanks, What did you do to correct your problem? It's possible but sounds more like steering.

On my car it has to do with the fact that I am running 225 tires on the front. It only happens when I go full lock on the steering. It is not really a problem as all I need to do is back off the steering slightly when it happens.

You should remove one of your front tires an look for evidence of rubbing. If it is on the inner body, you will probably have to live with it. I would be concerned if it is rubbing on the suspension and if so you should figure out the problem.

Funnily enough I asked the same question a couple of days ago http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1006424-wheel-rub-inner-fender.html I try to avoid going to full lock but sometimes forget and get some rubbing that is starting to wear through paint on inner passenger fender. If you find the rubbing is between tire and inner fender there is a stop available that goes between steering rack and tie rod that limits full lock. I will fit one over the winter

I have a set of steering rack limiter limiters installed to prevent this with my 225's on the front. Be aware that it made my turning radius like that of a limo. :-) I'm thinking of removing them or having them milled down a bit. I think they're a little too thick.

Do you have rub marks in both or only one wheel well? If only one the rack might need to be re-centered. Count the turns to lock in both directions with the wheels removed from the spindles. The steering wheel 12 oclock position should be at the mid point. If it isn't the steering wheel may not be indexed to the rack. To correct, remove the steering wheel and index to midpoint. When you do this you might find that when you drive the car the wheel is no longer at 12 oclock when driving straight. To correct add a half turn on one tie rod while removing an equal amount from the other. Drive the car again and make additional corrections as required.
