Painting fan and shroud?

Gents, thinking of freshing up the fan and shroud on the 87 3.2. First, should I and if so do I need to use high temp paint and what color(s). Thanks

When I painted mine I used VHT engine paint.
The colour I used was red. I was told Chevrolet orange is closer to the stock colour.

Are you talking about painting the fan itself also? Think twice about that, it was not painted from the factory.

It doesn't hold paint well, chips. I've heard some have powdercoated the fan with better luck.

I wouldn't paint the fan IIWY. Just clean it up with some 000 steel wool or a Scotchbrite pad.

I bead blasted the fan, checked for cracks, and coated it with Eastwood's high temp clear. Doesn't yellow and keeps it looking nice and easy to clean. I painted my shroud with the same paint I used on the car, worked great. Also did same clear on valve covers and cam boxes.. that's another Eastwood color on the intakes.

That's exactly what I used too. I did it the first time about 4 years ago. It never chipped and looked great except for dirt accumulating on the blades from use. I just pulled the engine again and in the process I figured I would have it powder coated this time around. It was so hard to get the paint off from my first application, that I decided to go with the same paint again. I added a few coats of VHT clear coat this time so it would be smoother and easier to clean the dirt off. It turned out pretty well I think.

Cruddy picture, but it's the best I could do since the engine is crammed in a corner of my garage currently.

I painted the shroud and fan blade with Duplicolor high heat engine paint with ceramic. Color is daytona yellow. Haven't installed the engine yet so no idea if it will hold up or not.

Is it difficult to pull the fan housing out and the fan out of it?

Looking to do something like this as well.
