Early recaro back seat adjustment: How doe the mechanics work?
My 1973 911T came with Recaro sport seats which I am currently refinishing. Unfortunately the backrest adjustment side mechanics came back from the powder-coater with coating also on the inside - they simply did not cover up all the internal mechanics. Currently nothing moves - I guess I need to break the powder coat in the relevant spots but do not know how the mechanic exactly works. Some fiddling yesterday brought me to the conclusion to better ask.
In the picture below I inidcated what I believe might be the way this should work, however while I can make the lever (1) move, the pressure plate (2) does not move a bit, even with quite some force. My sense is the lever (1) should move the pressure plat (2) up to then unlock and allow the gear (3) to spin....? Or am I completely wrong? It is strange that (2) does not budget one bit... Thanks for your help! ![]()

seat hinge
I believe the plastic cap either snaps off or twists off can't recall which, but it came off easily compared to everything else.
Found my link to re-installing the spring after it was removed; hope it helps. 72-73 seat hinge refinishing

The plastic adjustment mechanism on my 10+ year old Recaro seats crumbled and quit working on driver's seat left side. After you strip away all the plastic parts you are left with a steel rod that goes through the bottom of the seat back. Turning it with pliers or wrench adjusts the seat back.
For a better looking fix, get a Recaro Slimline Knob from Cantrell Motorsports. It slips onto the end of the steel rod (with a little rubber mallet persuasion) and locks down with a set screw. It is a very nice solution and allows easy adjustment of seatback. I ordered mine direct from Cantrell, though as I recall it was available elsewhere too.
