Between Reverse & A Hard Place
I pushed in the Brake Light Switch pin (detent), but wasn't in reverse; car won't move.
Now what??? Thanks in advance, E |
It dropped in the gear box?
May need to remove nose section to retrieve it. |
I don't think it dropped in. What prevents it from falling into the trans?
|
It contacts a roll pin in the shift rod. I guess the next step is to remove the shift guide fork plate and see if it's not in neutral.
|
I have removed the shift fork plate, and checked that the 1/2 & 3/4 shift guides are aligned.
|
I think that means it is in neutral.

See if each shift rod can be pried one notch either way from center. You can also see the end of the 5th/rev shift rod, but you can only push it toward the nose of the trans, which would disengage 5th if it was in 5th, into the neutral position. It's likely engaged in two gears at once due to a detent in the wrong position from a previous assembly. You didn't find any chunks in the gear oil, hopefully?
|
Yes, I have been able to move 1/2 & 3/4 shift rods both directions; engaging the gears.
No chunks in the gear fluid fortunately. I had some synchros replaced about 8 years ago at a reputable local shop. I've put aboutv 50k miles on since then. No track time, but a fair amount of spirited driving. If it was a reassembly error, why might it have only become an issue now? |
