Will '73 oil tank fit in '70 body?

I have a '73 oil tank that I would like to fit into a '70 chassis. Will that tank just bolt in, or is some trickery required? I note that the location of the oil filler tube is different. In the '70 the oil fillter tube is conveniently located tward the rear of the car. In the later oil tank, the oil filler tube is located deeper in the engine compartment. So I'm thinking perhaps the '70 body will not accomodate the later tank without modification. Does anyone know?

Juan,

If you find out that it does not and you need a tank, I have one from a 69 that I would let go at a reasonable price.

Thanks

As far as I can remember, there is one big hole on my 1973 and several smaller holes (for filler, for oil filter console etc,) on my 70.

I think a later tank can be mounted, but that it would involve some cutting of the body.

Juan-
I looked into this a bit for my '70. Aside from the filler location issue, you would need to contend with the plumbing of oil lines. The threaded nipple that accommodates the line that goes from the tank to the left side of the engine case (or to the external thermostat if you have a late style front mounted cooler) is 26mm on the '70, and 30mm on the '73. This could come in handy if you are trying to install a late style external oil cooler system. The S hose, running from the back of the tank to the engine mounted oil cooler is also different. On the '70 the S hose has theaded fittings on both ends, and the '73 has slip-on fittings at both ends. Sounds like a lot of work, and the only advantage I can see is the 30mm fitting, and that is only relevant if you are plumbing a front cooler.

I don't know about a 73 into a 70, but your 85 went into my 70 with some modification of the opening.....so if I can do it you can do it.

If you just need to deal with the 26mm to 30mm conversion, here is a much easier way to do it. It's a an adapter available from our host:

I had the cut the body to fit the 78 tank in to my 71 chassis. The mounting bolts are in the same position and make good locators for a template to cut. I used a body saw and it took just a few minutes.
