Building a rotisserie (I now have all the parts)
My Porsche rotisserie project is starting to come together. I found 5 or 6 different designs and decided on one with the most versatility. This rotisserie can handle the weight of a 73 charger SE body (striped to just the frame and body panels). The cost for materials was estimated at $200. My cost for just the steel cut to order was $184. I had to purchase some tools to do the job that cost another $230. The tools consist of a 90 amp Flux wire core MIG welder from Harbor Freight and auto darkening face shield and gloves. The wheels, drill bits, nuts and bolts and a few more hand tools cost an additional $56. I have read the opinions on the best type of welder to buy and I could not justify the added cost. As a DIYer I can do a good weld with what I have. Granted it won't be pretty but it will suit my need just fine. I will start to build the rotisserie this weekend and will post pic's of the project.

Harbour freight has a MIG on sale right now for about $230 that does flux core and can be upgraded for gas. That doesn't include the gas cylinder and regulator stuff, but you could always add that later. Good luck with the project and post some pictures.

The MIG I bought was the one on sale for $166 this past weekend at Harbor Freight. I cut up an old bed frame and practiced welding pieces together. For a person who has minimal experiece welding I was able to make a consistant bead along the joint. As I said it ain't pretty but it will do the job. The welder will make a nice addition to my tool collection in the garage.

Nice weld seams are only half the weld! Make sure you have thorough penetration! If it was me I would get a big hammer and beat on every weld seam to make sure I got a good weld before I put any car on the rotisserie.

Thank's Kurt for the info.
I do have a big hammer and I have taken it to the welds I have done in practice. I couldn't break them, I put one piece in a vise and pounded on it, the steel bent and the weld held.
