What starter do I need?

If you see in the picture below, I have this cutout for where the starter go.

Has anyone seen this before? What starter can I fit in there?

It seems like it was done at factory.

A bit more of insights thanks to a helpful rennlister - it seems to be an 87-89 g50 bell housing.

Which starter do I need? the car is a 964 with RS flywheel. does the early g50 starter ( 911-604-102-01 ) work on a 964 RS flywheel?

I would bail on the original style starter (unless you must have new and OE) and get a new hi-torque starter that our host sells. Smaller/less weight. They work great.
Can't comment on that top photo showing the cut-out, not knowing where that is ?? Can you back out some ?

Oh yea, I see that cutout way left of the starter now. I found photos from my car when the engine was out for top end years ago and I do not have that cutout that I can see. Best photo I could locate.

FWIW, here is a shot of my '87 G-50. No cut-out...
