Hose question please

On a 3.2 airbox, when I removed it there is a black hose that goes into a hole in the back of the airbox. I can’t find anything on this hose could someone please tell me what it does and where it goes to? Thank you , nick

It should go to the carbon canister. If you have the decal under your deck lid that depicts the vacuum lines, you'll see the 'map'.

Ok thanks. But it does not seem like a vacuum leak could happen since air is going into the airbox. Could you please explain how the hose works? Thanks

I got it ! All it does it take vapors out of the system and send them to the intake to be burned. No vacuum at all.

Nick...yes, there is vacuum. Your intake system is under negative pressure as the pistons draw air into the combustion chamber during their intake stroke. This vacuum draws fuel vapors from the evaporation chamber in the front of the car, through the carbon canister, and into the air intake to be burned as you stated. Put your hand over the air box snorkel with the car running and you should feel air being drawn in.

Ok, there is a vacuum leak but I don’t think it will act like a vacuum leak if it is disconnected.

No, but if you disconnect, isn't it sucking in unfiltered combustion air? Doesn't this bypass the air filter?

Mark
