85 Carrera to Early Carrera?
Has anyone ever done this? Maybe I am just bored, or maybe it was the early Carrera's that I really fell in love with. But, I was thinking of investigatig what it would take to convert my 85 Carrera to an early Carrera with ducktail and RS bumpers.
Has anyone done this? Do you have any pictures? Widebody or standard body. Is this crazy? I am thinking of: * some Lindsey Wheels, like Jacks * ducktail * new front and rear bumpers * deletion of rocker panels |

There's also an article in a recent Porsche mag (911 & Porsche World, the recent RS anniversay edition) about this - they made an RS clone using a 1985 Carrera - already has the flares, body's galvanized, more modern conveniences are pluses (minus is it's lot heavier).

Check out one we did on a 74 model: www.tremotorsports.com
click thru to the projects and friends page and scroll to the white car with all black wheels/ later changed to red graphics with red center wheels Very do-able and fun result |

Yup....hard part is finding rust free front fenders and good turn signals for a decent price....the rest of the stuff is fiberglass, unless you want to be REALLY original and broke....

Bill,
Really makes a nice car and looks like the car we all wanted before the DOT got ahold of it and added the impact bumpers! Curt did this years ago and has got a really nice car as does the TRE conversions. Like Mike said, the front fenders are out there but expensive if rustfree, and the turn signals are even more dear. I am really orginal and really broke... but once the stuff is bolted on I will be really happy! Joe

It would be a very fun project. I considered it with my '74 during the recent body restoration but decided against it. I couldn't bring myself to change it that much...lived with it since the late 70s with the bumper body. If I were going to take on such a project my choice would be an '87-89 with a G50 and I would later do a 3.6 swap. I would also be sure to get rid of the flag mirrors and backdate to the 73-74 style to complete the look.
