Removing CIS do I need to pull the injectors out
 

I have removed my motor from my '79 SC and have it up on a stand and am disassembling it.

I am removing the CIS as one complete unit.
I have been told that the injectors will extend down past the bottom of the manifold and I should pull them out before pulling the CIS.

1. Do I need to do this before removing the CIS from the block?
2. Tried pulling one out and it seemed quite difficult. I am a complete newbie at this and like to stop and ask questions to be sure. Is there some technique or special tool for removing the injectors? Sure don't want to mess anything up.

The end of the CIS fuel injector/s protrudes at the bottom of the intake runner/s. Since you have the motor out on an engine stand, disassembling/assembling the complete CIS would be easy and convenient.

If you don’t have a fuel injector puller, use a 12-mm open wrench and second wrench 14-mm (anything bigger than 12-mm) would do the job. Place the larger wrench under the 12-mm open wrench to pry it up. Lubricant will help get the old hard o-rings to slide out.

If you are planning to replace the injector sleeves and o-rings, there is no good reason to keep the CIS intact during removal because the intake runners have to come off from the airbox if you are replacing the sleeve/o-ring.
