Targa Window Adjustment
Hi guys, I'm trying to adjust the windows in my '83 Targa.
My issue is the top of the window is sitting outside of the targa top side seal. I have read both of the available Porsche manuals on sealing and window adjustment, but can't seem to find the adjustment for tilting the window angle in, or possibly I'm doing it wrong. I was able to adjust the stop height without an issue. If anyone has any pointers, it would be greatly appreciated! |
There are two places to adjust the tilt of the window.
1. at the bottom end of the quarter window, "L" bracket, using the allen bolt, loosen and tilt as desired 2. below door latch there are 2-4 holes covered by plastic caps. loosen and tilt as desired If these two are at their max tilt then you have to adjust the top seal out via the small phillips screws, be very gentle when tightening, it will strip the mag frame. Post some pics, your rear targa bar seal maybe too thick too, keeping the window from sitting correctly. Jim |
I tried the screws below the door latch as I thought those were the ones the manuals indicated, but I wasn't able to achieve much movement.
I have replaced every passenger compartment weatherstrip piece, including the windshield piece I ordered from Dan. I also just received a rebuilt top from him which is pretty impressive piece of work. I'm hoping to finally get the car sealed once and for all. |
Chuck,
Some time ago a fellow Pelican member was kind enough to share the Porsche "Targa Roof Repairs" shop manual. If you want the manual, please forward your email address via private message and I will forward to you. Could be the solution you are looking for. V |
The factory service bulletins do a great job of explaining how to adjust them. Just be patient and you’ll get them right (though it took me about an hour on each side when I did mine).

Near the bottom front of the door, inside the cavity, is a clip that holds the bottom of the quarter window to a bracket on the door. You have to reach into the speaker hole to get to it.
The manuals talk about adding washers to the outside on the bolt holding that clip, to the door skin; this is to increase the angle inboard of the quarter window. (Up to 3 normal washers, but don't go overboard). If you over angle or over raise the quarter window, it will push your top upwards when you have the door closed and you'll get more leaks and wind noise. There's a sweet spot. |
Thanks, guys. I'm going to re-read the two manuals and give it another try.
