Shipping a hood options?

I need to ship a used hood. I'm sure it will be expensive. Any other cheaper shipping options on this other than UPS and FedEx? Thanx L

Greyhound? Used to be a good choice for seats or wheels.

I shipped a hood via truck. I had to package in a wood crate. Found a trucking company that would take it.
It was a real 911R trunk lid so worth it.

Longhood or impact bumper?

Longhood is a real challenge because of dimensions. 74+ hood is a little shorter so easier to fall within UPS/FedEx/Bikeflights parameters. Greyhound has a max 47" which is exactly the width of the rear corners of the hood so Greyhound won't work.

I shipped a longhood to the west coast a few months ago and made a wooden crate that I had to sand away the bottom sides (inside) to accommodate the 47" hood width to fall inside the 48" width maximum. All dimensions combined were 2" less than maximum. So $100 via bikeflights instead of hitting $800 freight. Whatever you do, affix the dimensions on the outside of the box.

And to fit within the UPS/FedEx/Bikeflights guidelines, I had to wrap the wooden crate bike box cardboard.

Huge pain in the butt, never doing it again.

Hi,

I live in AZ and purchased some front inner fenders, two of them, pretty good size, from Colorado. I used this company called Roadie. You go on there put the size dimensions and you don't even have to box it up. However, for a hood I would protect the surface and the corners. Anyway, typically the people that use this service are driving in your direction anyway. So, you put your info in there and in a couple of days someone will respond that they can pick up and deliver your item and they have ratings. My items arrived sooner than even expected, in the late evening dropped off where I asked. Delivered on a Sunday! Check it out...

https://www.roadie.com/

Good Luck.

Rodney

I’ve had a 73 longhood shipped by greyhound .
Arrived with one “screen-side” corner folded slightly

Another option I heard about this week was forward air . Airport to airport for larger/heavier items .

A little tip here when packing it. Go to your local discount store and buy some pool "noodles". Split them down the side and attach them to the edges of the hood. That is how I transported a long hood in the back of a station wagon that was too narrow. (It would fit if it was tilted). Cheap protection that is pretty effective.

greyhound is great and economical, especially if you prepurchase on line (1/2 price). i shipped a hardtop for my targa and it was only 70$
