86 930 No Spark
Hi All, I went for an evening drive the other night and my car left me stranded. Cruising along at a constant 50 mph, the motor shut down. Almost like the key was turned off. On the side of the road, the car cranked but wouldn’t start. After getting it back home, I’ve determined that we have a no spark issue. I can hear the Bosch cdi box whine. So I thought that the box was ok, or at least getting power. I then switched the coil with a known working spare. Still no spark. I haven’t tested the green distributor wire, and not quite sure how to test, but the wire looks clean and connected. My question is what to do next? Are there any simple tests to do to determine if the cdi box is the issue or should it be sent out for a pro to bench test it? If sending it out, any recommendations?its a standard 6 pin Bosch. Thanks.

Discussed a million times on here, do a search.

Thanks Jonny, I have. I’ve read in my search that you’re a developer of one of the replacement products available. How would you address this problem? Another question for you, what do you offer in the 8 pin option, or is their an adapter plug available to use a 6 pin.

2 of the 8 pin wires go to a condenser mounted on top of the rear panel. Delete that and rearrange the 6 wires into a new 6 pin plastic plug.

Thanks John. The car with the 8 pin setup is a 76 930. I’ll have to take a closer look at the condenser that you are referring to. I’m a bit challenged when it comes to the electrical system. Always learning. I appreciate your time and help.

Did that on my 77 930.

They only use 7 of the 8 slots and that was just to split a ground that they tied together in 78.
