Fuel pump buzz
Should the electric fuel pump on my 3.2 car make a loud buzz when you turn the key to start? Or should the pump be silent? Is loud a sign of possible failure of the pump? Thank you , nick

In my 3.0 I didn’t ever recal hearing the Bosch pump run. It failed and I replaced it with the cheap-o Dansk unit from our host. I can hear it run from inside and outside the car but it seems to be working properly.

The pump in my SC contacts the skid plate under the car which acts as an amplifier. It is loud enough to hear inside and outside the car, but it has been like this for years so it seems like it isn't about to stop working.

Nick..there should be no sound from your fuel pump...you should check if you have broken mounting clamp or if it is not hitting the fuel tank protective plate...to start with

When your gas tank corrodes the junk clogs the fuel pump and it whines. This has happened twice to me in the 30 plus years I have driven my car. Remove the fuel sender and look inside your tank.
