Wiring Issue With Turn Signal?

Hey guys,

This morning I fired up the 911 to take to work and on my way in I turned on my running lights. When I turned them on I noticed my right turn signal indicator was illuminated on and not blinking. I started checking everything to see if I had messed something up. Unfortunately I had not. When I turn my running lights on or my headlights on, my turn signal indicator for the right side turns on and stays lit (no blinking). The turn signals work fine. Thoughts???

****EDIT**** I was thinking about this after I posted it. I purchased the clear lens kit and changed the front bulbs out to amber bulbs that came with the lenses. Could this possibly be the car telling me I have a bad bulb or the wrong bulb?

me too. getting ready to dig into this issue. will be watching this post for ideas.

OK so I figured it out! The bulbs that came with the kit are not double filament and are messing things up. If you take them both out, the problem goes away. The trick is going to be locating an amber bulb that has a double filament. I think the stock bulb number is a 7528. Any idea on where to get an amber version of this bulb? Even if it's LED?

EDIT: thinking about it now...does anyone know if LED will work?

hmm... in my case wondering why it did not do this in the past. and cant recall now when it started. and it is possible it was due to changing the bulb.

ironically I got a set of LED bulbs from someone on this forum, but had not tried to install. if I recall it requires the relay to be changed that came with the kit. may do the LED conversion as part of trying to resolve this issue.

PS that is a nice looking car. SmileWavy

Keep me posted! I would not mind going to an LED. this would mean that there would be even less amber color inside the housing.

Thank you!

I love seeing people's garages. Glad you figured it out.

I use rear LED turn signal bulbs and incandescent fronts, the resistance with this combo is just enough in the turn signal circuit on my '77 to not do the fast flashy thing.

Interesting! I have incandescent bulbs in the rear so perhaps it's safe to assume the same would work for me?

I got so lucky with this house. The garage was built separate and it's huge! There is a whole extra garage in the back where I keep the work bench and tools. My dad and my brother helped me assemble the electrical and everything because when we purchased the house the garage was bare on the inside with exposed framework.

The OEM flasher has a built-in safety alert if a turnsignal bulb burns out. The OEM flasher will hyperflash (2x normal rate) when the turnsignal load goes below two 21W bulbs. Thus when one bulb burns out the hyperflash begins to alert the driver to a burnt bulb.

Changing to LEDs causes the OEM flasher to hyperflash. There is a pin and LED-compatible flasher available. It is EP26 and available at many FLAPS and online. Just be sure to order the one made by Novita/Tridon and that it says "LED compatible" on the flasher.

The EP26 number has been reused and some EP26 out there are NOT LED compatible.

The "wink" part on my turn signal lever is not working, in fact I have nothing but high brites on. I have to hold the lever in the wink position to get lowbeams. Is this a relay issue?

If your high beams are coming on when you use the turnsignal, the contact in the stalk needs to be adjusted. I had this happen with my '86. Every time I put the turnsignals on I flashed the HB. Look for a thread here.

WOW! Thanks Spoke! Awesome information.

I had the exact same problem, takes about an hour and a half to fix. You gotta pull the stalk and clean/bend a lead in there. I did it once and it's worked ever since.

PDKLOL 10-12-2018 09:04 AM

So the bulbs were 100% the problem for me. I think I ended up getting an 1157A from Advance Auto and they work just fine. Figured I would update this for people who read later.
