$3.00 Rennsport road trip phone mount.

I’ve had this idea for a hidden phone mount and threw together a prototype tonight. I’m driving to Rennsport Thursday and want it for navigation.

I have this magnet mount glued to the back for my truck.



I thought I was going to use a hinge and modify it. But I found this decorative Hasp at Home Depot.



I had to enlarge the bottom hole to get it to fit in the correct spot. Then bend it into shape.



It mounts between the metal housing and leather trim of the ash tray.

It blocks the Heat Defrost lever only when sideways and everything when vertical.
So improvements are needed. But it only took about 30min and $3.00.

How many times have your knuckled it when banging gears?

I used the Rennline mount going to Luft5 this past April, the trip would've sucked without it.

^^^ I haven't driven with it yet. It doesn't stick out more than an inch or hang down any further than an open ash tray.
It should better than the phone setting on my leg while driving.
