Hardware list available? Nuts bolts washer shopping list for engine etc
 

Good morning.

I am looking to get some newer plated hardware for my engine rebuild and other various locations around the car. I am not looking for concourse replacements for period correct supplier/year. I am just looking for a shopping list of bolt nut washer sizes/type for an order on Belmetric for example.

I have looked at the PET but the information is scattered, if someone has a list they could share that would be terrific.

As a side note I saw the kits on Pelican but the reviews were suspect.

Mag case or Aluminum?

What ever you get, get the Wrightwood seal kit, everything is there but when it comes to the chain cover make sure the washers are SS as the aluminum ones are worthless and will squash.

Also for the engine halves I suggest the all metal lock nuts

Use ARP rod bolts/nuts and consider CP Carrillo Pistons or Mahles.

Side note, make sure crank shaft is to spec after polishing and straight, case journals are straight and replace oil squirters. Get Porsche Bearings or several OEM but you must measure them to insure they are uniform or place in order of wear on the crank.

Just have all your stuff replated when the parts are at the machine shop. Gold or yellow Cad plating. Most platers charge "by the lot". Average cost in So. Cal is about $80. Send them everything, throttle linkages, clamps, brackets etc. You'll be looking concourse in no time. We also always throw in some extra.

What Marc said is right on. Also, if you have bolts/nuts in non-repairable condition, replace then with like sizes, found at a variety of businesses found on Google, and include them with your re-plate order. That way what you must replace will match the rest of your hardware.

+RS O-rings for the rocker pins.
LN Engineering offer some good pistons,rings, etc. as well as piston/cylinder and top end refurbishing services. Talk to Charles.
Wurth has an excellent assortment of yellow zinc nuts and bolts. In Canada they deliver; not sure about the US.

I've never had any luck with plating - even in California. It's pretty much suspect and wears very quickly.

I would replace all hardware from BelMetric. I pretty much used all their stuff on my car and it looks great. No hassle, and it's pretty inexpensive. They ship the same day and it's awesome.

Doesn’t pelican offer the fastener “super kit”?

I bought one for my rebuild several years ago. Just what I needed and at a resonable price considering the amazing number of nuts and bolts needed to put this engine back together.

I bought some clear plastic organizer cases from harbor freight and filled them with a selection of yellow zinc hardware from Fastenal and other hardware stores. They are also good for organizing hardware during your engine teardown.
You can save a fair amount of money compared to the hardware kits from Belmetric or Pelican.
