911 winter Storage
Hi everyone
I'm a lurker of the forum for years,so I got around this summer and picked up a 89 anniversary coupe. Had a blast was it, but now its that sad time to put it away for the cold Canadian winter. Im on the hunt for a good trickle charger and car cover and any input will help |

Porsche is using the CTEK battery maintainer part number 95504490054. Several of my friends have these and like them.
I've been using a Battery Tender Plus for over a decade and really like it. For my car cover I like the Coverking Silverguard Plus (used by Porsche as well). This has been a good cover for use in a carport. |

I use a CTEK charger/battery maintainer. Works well and I generally leave it plugged in all winter with good results. You can get them through many sources like Amazon and similar. i picked up a couple some years ago at Canadian Tire.
As for a cover, I assume that you will park the car inside a garage or similar? If it's dry, I'd just use a lightweight cotton cover or similar. If it's outside and not protected, I wouldn't use any cover at all, regardless how breathable the manufacturer claims it is. They do tend to trap some moisture inside. Plus, any wind will rub the cover against the dirt and grime that will inevitably get under the cover into your paint. But in a carport like situation, I might use a good cover like the Coverking products. Or I might leave it uncovered depending on how open it was to the elements. Inside my garage, I just opened the windows most of the way and laid a couple old sheets over the car to keep dust and such off. The first couple years I owned the car (sans garage), I stored in a couple different places. One year was in a condo parkade - used a padded car cover to protect the one side that had a neighbouring car, from door dings and the crazy amounts of dust in those places. Another year, I had a storage locker and treated it like a garage except I removed the battery and took it home to keep on a maintainer because there was no electricity available. You don't show your city in your profile, so I can't give any specific advice that would change depending on that. However, if you're in a steadily cold place like Edmonton, just leave the car alone for six months and come back in spring; the cold won't hurt it. In TO or Vancouver or some other humid location, I think I'd use some sort of dehumidifier device to protect the car from that. There are loads of other winter storage prep threads here on Pelican. I'd suggest you take an hour or so to familiarize yourself with those recommendations, as well. Good luck!
