Importing a car from Canada
If all goes according to plan I will be purchasing a 911 in Canada that I need to bring back to the states. The car was previously registered in the US before it was taken to Canada. It's also a 1969 so I don't believe I will have a problem with it needing to be in line with US standards. Also, because of it's year I don't believe I will have to pay import duties.
Are these assumptions correct? Is there anything else I need to consider? Any help or past experiences would be appreciated. |

Hello - take a look at the link below to an earlier thread where this was discussed - hope it helps you out a bit. Post some photos of the car when you get it!

In order to not have to pay duties, you will need the name of an owner of the car when it was previously in the USA. You essentially need to prove where in the USA it was previously registered.

![]() ![]() When I brought in my 81 VW Doka, (Double Cab Vanagon pickup) I did not have to pay but a few $$ in customs fees. ![]() It was mostly paperwork and an hour of time waiting for the veh inspection to be done. That was about 5 years back, maybe more. Things may have changed by now. Len ![]() |

my friend bought one a few years back, turned out to be his biggest nightmare. Lots of issues and costs, but the worst was all the rust damage. Previous owner just used POR everywhere, the person he hired to inspect it should have been hung.

It's too bad that some have had rust infected cars from Canada. There are some in the US as well, I'm afraid. Most of the P-Car people I know treat their old 911s like the Crown Jewels. It's likely they have never even seen snow, let alone salt covered roads. Unfortunately mine got surprised in the driveway by a heavy show fall this week, but it didn't move and won't until next week when we're to get back to the high teens C (~60F) so I can top up the tank in preparation for winter storage. And I can say with all confidence mine has zero detectable rust (under the windshield, too, which was replaced this spring), even after living its first decade in Europe.

That's funny.
I have seen and owned 911's that were perfectly rust free. From Canada means rusted out? Please.. To the OP, not that difficult. Get your paperwork together, ducks in a row and easy peasy. |
