1985 3.2 oil leak - thoughts?

Hi

I moved my 3.2 after standing still for some weeks and noticed a little puddle of clear oil.

Can't really determine the origine.

What do you guys assume it would probably be?

I've uploaded an underneath image from my phone :

You'll need to clean the underside first before you can look for the origin. Too much oil everywhere to be able to tell where it's coming from. Once cleaned, put some clean cardboard under the car to find out the general area the leak is coming from.

I'd assume it's a Porsche
Since I don't follow links I can't help you much but there are LOADS of threads on this site for common leak sources in a 3.2. Get some simple green or other degreaser, clean things up, then start looking.

A little puddle? It's leaking all over the place. Could be triangle of death on top of the engine, broken head studs, breather hose from the oil tank, overfilled oil tank. Like the guy's said clean it up good then run till warm and look for leaks. Make sure you understand how to check the oil level properly.

Welcome Sacha,
use the link above from cabmando

Typical spots for oil leaks are :
crankcase breather cover
valve covers
oil pressure warning lamp switch
thermostat
cam chain box oil lines
Oil cooler seals

As was mentioned, clean off the oil as much as possible and then monitor to find the actual source.

What's the best product for OP to use to clean that underside?
Brake cleaner is good or bad?

Hello to Belgium.
1st.i would start with your oil return tubes-absolutely
2nd ,your camshaft cover gaskets and o rings are leaking too.But start to replace the tubes because the job to do the cam gasket is very difficult for you.
Clean the engine of course but in my case i always like to see the engine dirty because you can trace the oil leak better in most cases.

Ivan

Sugar..the best what i used to clean 911..engine is to go car wash and use tire cleaner choise. That takes all of the dirt and oil away-Very inexpensive way to clean it.

Spray can of engine degreaser works well too.... if you have it at a car wash, don't go crazy with high pressure... you'll get water where you don't want it and may have a tough time starting the engine afterwards.

I used Purple Power in a pump sprayer. Spray it on then after letting it soak I hit it with another sprayer full of hot water. I have heard of guys using oven cleaner but I have never personally tried that.
