911 "A" front calipers

I am getting/ordered a rebuilt set from Pelican. The description states 7mm shims/spacers ......don't know if these are part of the install...don't see any reference to them in installation info? Does it depend on the pad mfg.? need some guidence --tks, john

generally no spacer is needed, but each car is unique

Hi John - take a look at the link below to one of our DIY tech articles. Hope this helps you out a bit with the rebuilt calipers.

I believe A refers to Aluminum as opposed to M which were steel. The A calipers were a bit lighter, bigger and had wider bolt pattern and thus only fit on the 911S spindles. The E and T used the M caliper.

Nope
S are aluminum
A & M in all their variations are iron. all have 2x 48mm pistons

S & A all have 3.5" mounts

M all have 3" mounts, front M have 2x 48mm pistons, rear M have 2x 38mm pistons except the wider M rear used from '84 w/2x 42mm pistons

from MY69
911 TE used M/M, S & Carrera used S/M

from MY'74 911 & 911S used M/M, Carrera used S/M

From MY76 A fronts replaced S fronts which were used on 911 , 911S & Carrera

from '78 SC all 911 use A/M

from '84 all 3.2 Carrera use wide A/ wide M
