Windshield washer bottle question
I picked up a 1971 911 T Targa back in April. The car had been sitting for over a decade unused. I've been going over the car system by system rebuilding or replacing anything worn or non-functional. The windshield washer bottle had all the hoses coming off of it cut off and had clearly not been used in a very long time. The bottle was almost black in color and covered in nearly 50 years of grime as well as splatters of a gooey sticky tar-like substance. I removed the pump and soaked the washer bottle in hot soapy water overnight. When I started to clean off the dirt and crud I discovered a slit under the pump alignment bump.
Is this slit supposed to be there? Is it like a vent or overflow? Or should this opening be sealed-up and repaired before I reinstall the washer bottle? ![]()

The silt is not supposed to be there.
As noted by proporsche above, the raised circle and the lip next to the slit is there to hold the pump in place. Mine had a similar cut. I filled the hole with epoxy and used a bungee cord to hold the pump against the bottle.
