Premuffler install with diff o2 sensor location???
Installing a new pre-muffler to replace the original catalytic convertor on my 3.2.
I noticed that the location for the O2 sensor on the new pre-muffler is on the other end (the muffler end not the crossover pipe end). Not sure how to go about the installation, looks like the stock O2 sensor will not reach the new location. Anyone had a similar issue? Do I need to buy a new O2 sensor with longer wires etc? |
That's strange. guess you could splice an extension into the wires or leave it disconnected. I believe it only effects idle mixture. I would get a different pre-muffler.

Not sure what you're installing , but when i still had a 3.2 in my car, i installed a MK unit which i think is definitely the best one as the O2 bung captures both banks as compared to some other units which only capture one.The wiring was all good ... although as Chris mentions you can always splice the wiring with a good solder joint !

I just installed a Fabspeed and the O2 sensor was exactly where the old one went.

+1 M&K pre-muffler with O2 sensor, looking aft. What kind of pre-muffler are you using?

Go to a muffler shop, have them relocate the bung and weld up the old location.

Pic of premuffler
This is a pic of what I am using, not sure what the correct name for it is, I think it is called a ram horn power pipe.

The sensor is too far forward to take full advantage of reading at the merge collector. They should have just put it closer to the inlet flanges at this point. That an interesting design, i guess they were going for an equal length runner.
Some aftermarket chips are meant to run with the o2 sensor disconnected, similar to the euro cars. The o2 sensor does correct your AFR at idle and part throttle cruise. The computer reverts to default fuel maps at WOT. If your sensor is old, go buy a universal Bosch 3-wire. It comes with a long harness and a splice kit (posi-lock connectors). |
Install
Thanks for the replies. Anyone else installed this kind of premuffler?

Stated in the instruction sheets for Bosch universal O2 sensors a warning in bold: "Do not solder connections, use supplied crimps only". The universal ones are the cheapest way to go and still get a quality product.

Could you just splice in an extension? That would seem simplest to me.
