Question rear window defroster

I finally figured out why my rear window defroster wasn't working, the wires aren't hooked up! Now that I've discovered the obvious, here is my question. It is the 2 stage unit and according to my wiring diagrams one hot/ground goes to the first stage section. Then a hot goes to the first part of the second stage unit, connects with a black wire to the second part of the second stage unit then the ground attaches to this. Did that make sense? I'm not sure which part of the glass is considered the first stage or the second. Also how do the wires connect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Unhappy

Ohhh, those can be a *****! Way I understand it, wires actually run through the rear window seal rubber. Maybe the connections are hidden in there? Sorry I don't have more info, hope somebody else knows more..

Red face

Yeah, I've been going through my books looking for illustrations and all I find are instructions telling you that the wires do run through the rubber seal, but nothing else.

Your on track.......the connector comes out of the harness right by the fuel filter.
First stage fires up one leg, the second stage fires up the other wire.
I'm in the same boat. The PO pulled the wire when car was re-painted. Lazy.
I have the Porsche harness. And yes, it gets mounted into the rubber seal.
Auto glass shop not "real" excited about pulling the rear glass out of a Porsche. Don't see many here in the "Wild" west.
I'd like to figure out how to test the defroster grid before I proceed. I was going to ask the question this weekend.

Hope This Helps ....

Talking

Thank you all for replying. I've looked through the factory workshop manuals, the Haynes guide, the Restoring 911 book and through my Excellence/Panorama magazines and all that I can piece together is that the wires come up from the engine compartment, as mine do, then go through the rubber and somehow lay in the rubber and connect to the glass. The previous owner had it painted and after that "the defroster never did work, it just blew fuese," he never gave it a second thought, but then he lived in Texas. I've looked through the wiring diagrams and they seem to help a little, but I was hoping that someone out there might know which wires went to which connector. This would be easier if only one edge of the glass had connectors, but both the left and right edges have the connectors, so I'm lost. Thanks once again.
