Please help ID my engine...

Since ive had my SC (about 3yrs) i have been noticing subtle differences about the engine compared to many here on the board. Ive got a hypothesis that leads me to beleive that my engine is not what came with the car. The history of the car is a bit shady. I retrieved the stamped numbers from the right side of the case, just below the fan housing.

64CO730

Is this the right info to identify year/type of engine? If so, does anyone have a link or the information on what kind of engine I have?

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Kemo,

Are you sure that C isin't a zero? I have an 80 SC, engine number is 6300427. It's a ROW type 930/09 motor.

if the engine number does not contain any letters...i would be inclined to believe the number to be: 6400730

if that is the case...then do I have an engine newer than yours?

Looks that way. I don't have any spec books with me, may be someone else can give you the details on the engine.

Hi there. I just happen to have a copy of my new book (shameless plug) sitting in front of me. The table in Appendix A (Page 202) says that your engine is a 1982 911SC USA-spec.

wow...looks like I need to rethink a few things, exp my CIS. Wayne, thanks for the info...i have your "101 Projects" and I love it. I will be getting the new book too. Thanks.

like Wayne said, though you were initially correct.
the engine serial number IS 64C0001 - on for engines produced from Aug 1981 - July 1982. Total of 2,457 built.

I have mixed opinions, for one...my engine is not original...makes me nervous. Secondly, I guess its not too bad since its an 82. My odometer reads 180, 000 KM. But the replacement engine could have even more on it. Well, at least I know what year to buy parts.
