I hope you're right. I caught the last half of it last night, not having known about it previously. If it's on again tonight for real, I'll tape it.

Enjoyed the show last night. Caught the last 2 minutes of the Ferrari show.
My fiance kept saying while watching the show, "It's just a car". So I said that she couldn't ride in it anymore than. She said "Well, it's a nice car" I have to say that I feel a bit better about the whole Porsche Nazi thing now. Porsche made cars, was told by Hitler to make a car, and since no one else could, Porsche becamse the people's hero. Made tham a car they could afford. I didn't know that he was imprisoned at age 70 in Frnace though. They were just jealous.

I thought the most interesting factoid of the show was that Ferry Porsche got the money to build the 356 by negotiating royalties from the production of the Beetle, while Dr. Porsche languished in a French prison. Imagine how easily that might never have happened. Great business move!
I've been to the Gmuend museum once and to Zell am See many times, but never knew the Porsche family had an estate there. I'll do some looking next time I get there. Also noteworthy was the pre-war tidbit about Dr. Porsche and son traveling to Detroit to consult with Henry Ford, who the show described as a Nazi sympathizer. An all around fascinating show. |

I missed it too! I check on A&E, and they only have the 911 tape for sale.

I thought the shows were interesting, but most of the time was spent on Porsche pre 1950. Excellent history but very little time on Porsche 911 and almost no coverage of Porsche racing. It was mostly a bio of Prof F. Porsche. Just fyi if you are considering buying the tape.

Hey, I spent all last night upgrading this BBS (and I don't have cable). Can someone 'donate' me a copy of the video? I'll pass it around (mail it to) the members of the BBS when I'm done...

I thought both of the Bio's were excellent. They - obviously - keyed in more on the the men than the machines. But that made it different from most auto shows and I certainly learned some new things about both men. I'm sure these will be replayed many times over.

Wayne, I would be happy to mail you a tape, and then you can pass it around....I taped both shows (Ferrari and Porsche) and paused the tape for all commercials. Where would you like it sent?
Marc
