Heater control question (switch location)
 

In Carreras without automatic heat control, the engine blower is turned on by lifting either lever between the seats. Lifting the lever trips a switch which activates the engine compartment blower via the relay on left side of engine compartment. My question: where is this switch that is activated by lifting the lever? The PET CD does not show the switch to be at the levers, which is where I would expect it to be. Wiring diagram in Bentley (970-52) shows that the lever does activate a a switch.
NB. I am _not_ referring to the auxiliary blowers in the cabin, which are activated by turning the 4 position dial switch between the seats.

the switch is underneth the lever on my car.

I cant figure out the four postion switch what it turns on since it does nothing in mine, not sure if switch is bad or fan motor. Not to much info in bently about it.

You have a fuse blown, relay not working or switch out. When you rotate the switch on top of the handbrake lever console the small fans in the footwell should come on, while lifting either of the two "heater" levers sends power to the heater fan in the motor compartment.

Time to get out the wiring diagram and go from there. I would check fuses first then work back to the rotary switch.

where is the relay, this has been an ongoing problem since last winter and it is once again starting to get cold here. I have no blown fuses in the engine or trunk compartment, all other electrical components of car work properly. I would suspect relay before switch. as its connections are clean, lights up and clicks like the microswitch should do but no fan comes on. when I pull up the levers I get defrost fan.
any help would be great

The switch is attached to the hand brake lever. It can be seen from the passenger side.

The part can be found on the PET -CD #701-05 part #5.

These books are almost as good as PelicanParts BBS when trying to figure out any Pcar problem.

if someone finds out the part number of this switch could they please let me know, I have a Euro '78SC which was missing the switch, I have temporarily installed a manual switch but would like to properly fix it

Like Nifty I too need this switch for my '78 US spec SC. For now I also am using the manual switch.

Hard to find the part number when you don't know what its called.

Maybe talk to Tom here at Pelican, and see if he can get it for you.

Then read the tech article about "extra cooling" when you install the new one. Nice when stuck in traffic.

Also great for cool down after DE laps and autocross run.
After you've let engine rest. Turn off engine. Turn ignition back on. Then lift the engine lid and open the heater lever just enough to get the blower going. Helps the hot engine from "heat sinking". The air going across it helps dissipate the heat.

I would suggest taking out the passenger seat when you change the switch. Gives you a lot more room to work.
