another axle question
what grade are the 8 mm allen bolts used to attach the axle to the tranny? Can I reuse them? If not can you buy them at a hardware store or are they special order?

I believe they are around metric “9.??” hardness. The official Porsche Parts position is that they should not be reused, but most people get by using them twice. There are two different lengths so be sure to take one w/u when you replace them. I wouldn’t buy them at the hard ware store though I’ve been told by a supplier that all Allen bolts are grade 8.

They are 12.9 "grade" and may be reused if the threads and wrenching hex in the head is in good condition. However the "Schnorr" lock washers (toothed dished washers) underneath them should be replaced each time. Unlike the traditional US socket head cap screws which for many years were available only in SAE Grade 8, the metric socket head cap screws are available in lower strength grades like 8.8 and 10.9 so be sure you are getting 12.9 grade. Cheers, Jim
