1985 Targa - Heat from both rear quarter panels.

I'm new to the 911 world, recently buying a 1985 911 Targa early this year. The car was recently tuned up in the spring, with valve adjustment. The car runs great but after driving the car for a while, I'll get out of the car and can feel the heat coming from both rear quarter panels. Is this normal? The car has 112,000 miles.

As I recall there is an air cooled motor back there behind those panels. I think that might explain the heat.

Normal.
After a spirited drive, the engines heat eskapes not only via the engine bay/decklid grille but especially the heat from the exchangers evaps via the rear wheel wells.

One side is the exhaust and the other is the tank with 8 or 9 quarts of hot oil.

Also remember that your dry sump sits in the right rear wing/fender and has quite a lot of heat escaping

That's heat soak when there's no airflow to remove the residual heat.

I believe the manual suggests some idling before shutdown. Open the decklid.
