How to build a Singer style dashboard insert?
Has anybody manufactured \ purchased a singer style insert?

You need a source for the polished trim and a source for the leather.

What year is your car? I made these dash sets that I’m selling. I only have them in brushed aluminum and black anodized brushed aluminum. But they should be easy to have basketweave upholstery installed on them.

Unfortunately right now I only have them made for models up to 85 with the smaller AC vents. I plan making a set for 86+ once I find an 86 to take dimensions off of. |
What about 74?
Thanks David |

Hi David, they will fit 74 models. I apologize, didn’t mean to hijack the thread! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would need to measure around the larger ac vents/controls as well as the slightly different glovebox. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

check out this page where I made a customized version of the dash for my 1985 starting at post 45. I get into detail about adding the decorative material to the metal in about post 52.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/819396-so-how-backdate-project-starts-3.html I bought the aluminum trim off ebay and asked for it uncut as I wanted to remove most everything from my dash. Google "ebay porsche dash aluminum trim". Several sources can supply it already cut for the dash. I bought the dash vinyl as part of my interior purchase from a European supplier. I think you can also find that several places...unless you want the Singer leather. |
try this Dash Backdate — Stuttgart Classica. I'm going to order for my '85, haven't done yet, so unable to comment on quality or ease of installation.

seems expensive for just the aluminum. I paid around $150 for mine local to me in LA area. He was able to sell me the raw stock as I wanted one long seamless piece to the right of the steering wheel. Anyway, he could provide them in different configurations back then. Here he is on ebay:

Trim Dimensions?
Not wanting to start a new, very boring thread, I'll ask a related question here:
Does anybody have the exact height dimensions of extrusion/Singer style dash trim? I'm playing with an idea to modify the awful 996 dash and back date it a la Singer. Very early days but one critical element I need is this dimensions. Both the outer height and inner height (between the top and bottom rails, where the leather trim goes). TIA |
aaguiar27 Did you ever make dash trim for 86 and up?
|
FSK in Germany sells a very nice Singer style dash face that fits the 1986 and later 911(through 1994 964) cars. It is a heavy milled piece of aluminum. I bought one for my SC back date and it fits the 964 AC controller properly. I modified mine to accommodate the old style dash glove box on a 964 dash.
