The real issue is the man in charge at Porsche at the time Ernst Fuhrmann, hated the 911. He wanted it replaced with the 928. He forbade any research and development on the 911 and restricted the budget for it. Customers insisted on many new features, so they were grafted onto the car, and with no budget to really do it right, it was done as cheap as possible. Only when the American Peter Schutz took over in 1981 did he change the future of the 911. He had to start small and his first orders were to improve and modernize the 911 SC into the Carrera. The 1980s was a VERY tough era for Porsche and they almost went bankrupt so money was tight. When the sales of the Carrera brought in cash, they spent major effort to start over on the 911 and the 964 was the result. Electrical and AC issues were finally solved. The 924 was a major cash cow. So blame it all on Fuhrmann. |
Forget that crap. Install LED headlights and you won't need relays. They only draw about 1/4 the amps that halogen headlights draw.
