Sump screen cleaning/maintenance?

Hi Pelicans:

I've never had the sump cover off of my '83SC. I do all regular maintenance including draining all oil from the tank and sump every winter, and I don't have any leaks at the sump cover. What's the maintenance schedule for the sump screen ("oil strainer" 930 107 314 00)? Or should I leave well enough alone?
