Carb help
I have a 2.4 with S pistons and solex cams with fresh rebuild that I am trying to get running on a test stand. I have Weber IDTs that have correct venturies, and jets per performance orientated recommendations. I cleaned the carbs and put new gaskets everywhere.
I am having trouble getting the accelerator pump squirters to spray on 456 bank. 123 bank no issues.. If I fill the bowls by taking the top off of the carb I can get the squirters to work.. Fuel pump is a Carter pump and I know it's flowing to both sides as I had some fuel leaks that needed to be addressed. Engine will start and run well for 5 seconds but not at idle I have to throttle up to 2500 rpm.. Any thoughts.. Webers are new to me mostly only dealt with cis and efi in my Porsches.

Sounds like a float issue (sticky or misadjusted), or a needle valve issue. Do the floats on the bad side move freely when the carb is open?

Squirter issue:
Remove top cover & look to see if fuel surface above inlet valve for accelerator pump is disturbed when actuating throttle lever arm If you see disturbance then the inlet check valve is not closing and fuel is not going to the squirter nozzles as a result. Idling issue: When you throttle up to 2500 RPM you are actually beginning to run on the main circuit. I expect that the fuel delivery to the idle jets is compromised due to blocked fuel galleries. I refer to these galleries as "Hidden Galleries" due to their not being easily cleared by blowing air through the various fuel passageways. I have a procedure on my web page that talks to this issue: Performance Oriented |
