Cold runner

I have a 68' 911E 2.0 that refuses to reach normal operating temperature (170-180 'ish) The gauge does move but the warmest I have been able to get the car is 150. Runs like a dog. .Any ideas? Bad gauge? Previous owner states the car would reach operating temp of 175.

I suspect the car has an intake leak, actually I am fairly positive it does. Would this cause the car not to warm up fully. I am in Seattle so the temp is normally close to 50 during the day. .

I have performed the following work on the car.

plugs
wires
cap
rotor
condenser
oil change

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Alan

I should add, the previous owner stated that the car would run well at 175, but that is just what he said. .. .

Thanks,
Alan

does that model have an internal oil thermostat? you could be running rich thus keeping the engine cool.

i would not trust a 34 year old gauge, but maybe when summer comes she'll heat up the extra 25 degrees.

Not sure if it has an internal thermostat or not, I was hoping someone would know. But you are right, a 34 year temp gauge is not to be trusted. I wonder if I should switch to a thinner oil and see if that helps in out.

i would do a search on the internal stat. i would assume it does.

it sounds like it is stuck open. so maybe if she can get hot one time, she'll start working again.
