Axle flange seals leaking after replacement

I had recently noticed my transmission was leaking and it was coming from the axle flange on each side. I just ripped it all apart and replaced everything. The job wasn't very difficult, but now the thing leaks as bad if not worse. I am having terrible luck with new seals in this car. Anyone have any insight or ideas? Both sides are dripping after driving it for a short trip. I followed the shop manual and didn't have any hiccups.

Do your flanges have a groove on either side from the original seals? If so maybe you can tap them in a wee bit further to miss the groove.

I recall a service manual showing a dimension of how proud or recessed the seals were to be after placement. It was different for left and right!

They were pretty worn. On the driver's side you can really only set the seal in one place because it runs out of room. This is the side that is leaking like a faucet.

For the passenger side it said to have it recessed 7-8 mm. I also read 3-4mm. I tried to hit a spot that was different from the previous seal. This side seems to also be leaking, but not as bad as driver side.

Could it be that the flanges are just too worn and I need to replace them? I read about a sleeve somewhere, but I don't see much info on this. The car has just under 200k on it, so I feel the possibility of this being the problem is a good one.

Look up speedi-sleeves if you don’t want to get new flanges. Basically a thin wall outer sleeve to cover up grooves. You’ll have to get an exact measurement from a flange to find a match...

Turns out it was my vent up top. It must have been removed when the car was apart and not re-installed properly. It was facing the back of the car not the front. It was leaking like crazy!

I drove the car for a while and it didn't smoke or burn anything. When parked I was drip free! I think I have finally tackled this one. I found this as a possibility while digging through the forum. Thanks to everyone that helps contribute. It's invaluable.
