Need Headlight switch help

Greetings. Looking for some advice on a headlight switch.

I have an '88 911 which had a headlight switch failure. I purchased the replacement part (91161302904) from Pelican. After reading through my Bentley Service Manual, looked pretty straightforward - simply matching wires with terminals. As I look at the new and old switches, their terminal don't match up. I have 14 wires on my existing switch with only 11 terminals on the new switch. I figured I had ordered the wrong part as my existing part number is 91161302903. Pelican tells me on their site that the switch I was sent is the correct replacement.

In comparison of the new and old switch it appears that I have 2 wires attaching to two separate terminals for wires labeled 58L, 58R and 58. The new switch only has one terminal for each of the two wires. Any advice is appreciated.

the best help you will get is to take a pic of the new and old switch and post it here

Reference the pin layout here I did when I had issues with my switch. It shows when each terminal is live in relation to the key on or off and which position the headlight is in.

But for a simple comment pertaining to pins 58L and 58R, they are for your parking lights. It looks like your old switch, like mine, used a separate pin for the LEFT and the RIGHT parking lights. If they go to the same pin, 58, it will serve the same function as you can see on the diagram below.

To attach two separate leads to a single terminal pin, there is a small U shaped brass jumper available that will slide into one wire connector on one side of the U-jumper and then the other wire connector will slide over both the other side of the U and the pin on the switch. I hope that makes sense as I don't have any pics. Or you could make your own Y jumper from a couple short wire pieces and some terminal connectors.

Headlight switch

Thanks for the information Kevin. I know exactly what you are referring to with the U brass connector. If I can't find them I can make my own. Thanks again for your input.

On my '86, several of the terminals were doubled up.
2 wires would share the same spade with a "fork splitter"
I think my switch only had 9 terminals, but 13 wires.

Turn signal stalk harness
White/black -> 56 (White is the main wire color, black is the stripe color)
Grey/black -> 58L (inside)
Grey/red -> 58R (inside)
Red/white -> 75

Plug Prong harness
Grey/black -> 58L (outside)
Grey/red -> 58R (outside)
Grey solid -> 58 (between 56 & 30)
Grey/white -> N
White/green -> 57
Black/blue -> 58a

Electrical tape wrapped harness
Red/white -> 75
Red solid -> 30
Blue/black & Black/blue -> 58a

All I can say, is that the switch on our M/Y 86 Targa
is wired as per the above pic, and everything works.

Also, don't forger to pull the + battery cable prior
to working o the switch.
