Turn signal problem - please help
I'm hoping you all can help me with a turn light problem I've been having. My left turn signal - front and rear - stays on constantly when the headlight switch is on. It happens if the the switch is set to parking light or headlight, either one. Also, it does not matter if the turn lever is in the left turn or middle position, they burn constantly. When the headlight switch is off everything works fine. By the way, the right turn signals work fine.
I know our cars have a function that allows the left turn signals to stay on when the car is turned off if you move the lever to the left turn position. I've been told this relates to double parking situations in Europe, true or not, I don't know. It seems like this is what the car is doing when the headlights are on but I don't know if the two are related. I guess my question is, does it sound like I need to replace the headlight switch, repair the turn signal lever, is it the ignition switch or is it some other problem all together? I just spent the weekend repairing the wiring harness to the left front turn signal. The backing plate/tabs for the bulbs was shot but the rest of the harness seems fine. Any ideas? |
bump (Maybe some of you West coast guys were sleeping-in when I posted this and can help. :) )

the usual suspects should be checked-all grounds, clean and dialectric grease all + connections, check the bulbs, check the turn sig switch for broken/worn contacts.....good luck, IT WILL work again!!

Thanks Chad. I guess I was hoping it was a problem someone else would recognize and I could skip all the testing. Oh well.

I hoped and wished too, but no luck....it took 3 days to go thru my whole sig. system.....it all works great now....and the best thing is-I know all its glitches, etc. so when it does act up, its a real quick fix.....

item #48 on the ?diagram . i would pry the cover off and check it before i dove into the headlight switch.

I ended up replacing the h/l switch, turn sig, and the h/l relays.......its almost as good as new....

Are you sure the "blinker" relay is not sticking. Easy to take apart and clean. Its behind the oil pressure/temp guage. That is what caused my lights to stick.

Jamie, would there be seperate relays for both sides? Because the right side works fine all the time, left side works if the headlights are off.
