Rear Wiper Switch dash hole dimensions needed

I have a simple three pin red illuminated rocker switch I would like to install so I can activate the oil cooler fan on my '87 targa. Before I cut the vinyl dash/gauge cover to fit the switch, I'd like to get the dimensions of the hole to confirm my switch will work.

Does anyone have the dash/gauge area uncovered so they can measure with calipers the dimension of the hole? Millimeters would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

I should mention that I would like to use the switch I have because it is all red and illuminated. Would be obvious and in my face if I left the fan on, whereas the factory rear wiper switch would not.

It's pretty small. I don't want to pull mine out, but the outside dimensions of the bezel around it are 13.9mm wide by 23.2mm tall. Maybe that's enough info to tell you if your switch has any chance of fitting.

This switch is one of the mysteries on my car. I've owned it since 1992, and there is no sign of it ever having a rear wiper, but I have the switch.

Thanks Mark. It's a start as I can reference those numbers to my switch and the inner dimensions. To be sure though, I'll need the actual dimensions of the hole. And DON'T pull out your switch! You never know how old plastic will perform when pried on...

I have a red one and it is a bit to bright for me at night...but it works well and fits the dash spot. There is a photo of it in the short thread which has some good info on the install.

Flintstone,

That thread in fact is the one I am referencing for my install. And I have a similar switch. The illumination of the switch is not included in the diagram but you mention further below in the thread you used to the power of the fan to illuminate the switch. By that logic, can you confirm the 2 position illuminated switch wiring below would be correct.

Power to pin 85 oil cooler relay
ACC to pin 87 oil cooler relay
Ground to ground

If I understand correctly, this would allow the thermostat to operate the fan as normal when the switch is off and when the switch is on, it is illuminated and the fan is running. Of course this is all predicated on the fact I have the factory Carrera oil cooler thermostat and fan wiring.

Just checking back to see if anyone can get these dimensions easily.
