Valve Adjustment interval different with track miles?

I track my car about four weekends a year and was curious if you think that the normal 15,000 mile interval still applies or if track milage calls for a shortened interval. BTW, I drive the car about 2,000 miles a year including track miles of roughly 500 a year.

I don't mean to be a jerk, bit are you saying that you should only have to adjust the valves once every 7.5 years with your driving schedule? It's sort of like saying you should only change your oil every 2.5 years. I know oil and valve adjustment are subject to the same elements, i.e. oil breaks down, etc., but the facotry manual still recommends certain maintanance steps on a time basis, not exclusively on mileage.

Noel,
Best plan is to do the valves every year as part of your pre-season prep work. In the same vein, you should really consider changing oil after every one or two track weekends. You really don't want to bet on oil that has been working up near its limits then sitting for months.

As a local shop here says: Remember, grease is cheaper than steel.

Noel, I would adjust my valves prior to every track session. Same with changing the oil, brake fluid, etc.

when i drag raced VWs years ago, i would go over them with a fine toothed comb, before the racing, and even during the day. it's time you're after and if it's off just a bit, i could cost you.

Every 7.5 years. What is wrong with that? :) Actually, I have been doing it every year, but was curious about it.

As far as the oil goes, I change the engine oil twice a year with Mobil 1 15/50. My oil temps don't get much if at all over 220 during my track stuff. (Carrera cooler with plenty of airflow with the turn signals out.)

I also change the tranny fluid with Synthetic once a year.

Thanks guys,

Noel

Why do you use synthetic? Did you convert to the G50 trans?

I use SwepCo. I thought it was synthetic.
