using motronics for 4.0 N/A motor
Hi,
I have a 3.8 993 RS motor, that I need to rebuild and am looking to stroke it to 4.0 and use a 996 GT3 intake to get more HP and torque. What are your thoughts on using the stock motronics system with this set up? I am trying to stay away from ITB's and motec and symplify the build. Also, any other suggestions to maximize this set up? I have a varioram I can also use. Thanks |
You could just buy VEMS PnP that plugs right into factory harness..
Motec is not the only standalone ECU and not even the best one at that. Just sayin'... |
if you are staying with a plenum and single throttle the stock motronic with a piggyback ecu/chip will be sufficient, and keep all the factory knock protection etc.
standalone is a bit overkill |
Thanks for your input.
I see a lot of hot rod 4.0’s using stand alone ecu and ITB. Does it make that much of a difference? Can I get close to 400 hp with motronics, single throttle, stroked 4.0 and GT3 intake? |

i have two 3.6 powered cars- one had ITB's, the other doesn't. the one with ITB's is up for rebuild as it is more highly strung, and the ITB's were worn and may have contributed to the engine wearing prematurely. engine builder said with modern management, tech, and a manifold like on a GT3, you will make as much power, safer, and be easier to setup and tune. for my 964 motor he uses a larger throttle body on the plastic manifold and with no AFM can do a cup car style air filter. the other 3.6, which is closer to stock (cup cams, exhaust, ECU) is more for street and is in the process of getting ITB's anyway, because they are fun haha. won't be subjected to the same extremes as the track car. but, that is one builder's perspective. there will be pros and cons |
