Cross-Country Shipping
Gentlemen,
We're in process of moving from the Northern Virginia area and returning to San Diego. This move will occur at the end of May, and when we came here (from San Diego in 1995), we shipped our cars with Classic Express. Happy with that move and all, but I'm wondering if anyone on this BBS has experience, both good and bad, with other shippers. I'll need to get this laid on pretty quickly (within 2-3 weeks), so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (or should I use TIA?). ![]() |

If you found a good shipper, why take a chance with someone else? I'd stick with them.

What?!?!

We recently used www.carmoves.com and it has gone well so far. The car has not been delivered just yet but is on schedule.
Fully insured, door to door service, and came recommended to me by a guy that sells restored 70's/80's era Trans Am's to buyers around the country. Keep me posted on the move you crazy SOB!! ![]()

i shipped my 993 in Canada by rail. Toronto Ont. to Edmonton AB for about $650-about $460 US (3400 km/2100miles) When I was doing my paper work, a girl paid to ship an Accord from Toronto to Vancouver (4400km/2700miles) for $750 -about $500US. It turned out great!! Not sure what shipping by rail costs in USA, but I would investigate this option. Besides, if the driver falls asleep hauling your car, I rather have him on the train than in a Kenworth

Max,
That does sound interesting. What kind of time are we talking about for the rail service you used? I'm sure it would be a little different for each case but just give us a reference.

The company that i went through was not actually the railroad, but a third party. (which i'm sure why it went so smoothly) they specialized in shipping cars by rail and overseas. Basically, they shipped out once a week (Friday). they told me 6-8 days. It was in Edmonton late Monday, i picked it up Tuesday. 4 days!!! I was impressed. If the rail company does not have track between your two cities, and has to be transferred, i'm sure it would add time and paperwork. max

Just shipped the 73S from Seattle to Houston via Horseless Carriage and they did an excellent job - including great service. Advance calls from the driver at both ends with acurate estimates of pick up and delivery times. These guys have 30 trucks on the road at all times around the country and ship many serious collector cars. I will use them again!

I used Intercity Lines to ship my car from CA to WA. I had no problems and would use them again. They only have enclosed trailors and they were very speedy.
