fuel pump woes

I've got a 1971 911T and it's leaking fuel badly from the fuel pump. Or rather, *a* fuel pump. From what I've read in 101 Projects and other places, I believe the fuel pump on my car should be up front under the fuel tank. This fuel pump that's leaking is in the rear -- a cube-shaped object that's bolted to a
flange just above the rear suspension control arm on the driver's side. I assume that some previous owner disabled/bypassed the original front-mounted fuel pump and installed a more recent non-Porsche fuel pump in the back.

Am I missing anything here? I want to verify that my thinking is correct before I rip out the leaking pump in the back and find a correct fuel pump to put up front.

BTW, pics of the car are at:
