Where weld rear sway bar mounting bracket
I have a '72T that was not optioned with sway bars. Anyone point me to how I can find/measure where the brackets should be welded to the chassis?

there is some good photos here )))) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/972331-need-pic-rear-sway-bar-attachment.html
id think if you got them w/I a 1/4" or so most after market sway bars drop links would take up the slack. after tacking them into place would suggest mocking up the bar to see that the mounting surfaces are parallel. if you are using rubber bushings this is less important, but if solid bushings you could bind them if the bar does not rotate somewhat freely. when I welded my wevos on it was a no brainer as they went right where the old ones that tore and were ultimately ground off sat. I did still check them with the sway bar as I continued to weld them up to make sure nothing twisted as the welding distorted things... rubber bushing hide a ton of stuff. |
Bar also needs to clear the trans mount by 10mm or so. That alone will get it in the right place.

I suggest mounting the parts in this order, preferably with the car at normal ride height.
1. Mount drop links to control arm 2. Attach sway bar to drop links (aftermarket sway bars have arms that connect sway bar to drop link). 3. Install the sway bar support bracket (and urethane/rubber) to each drop link, then onto both ends of the sway bar, then.... 4. Swing the sway bar toward the chassis. Drop links should be vertical (or close to it) and equal length if adjustable. If the sway bar has arms that connect to the drop links, select a chassis mount location (same both sides) where the drop links are most vertical. Verify the drop links can be most vertical at all adjustment settings. The chassis sway bar mount locations are thus identified. 5. Clamp, then tack weld both chassis sway bar support mounts; double check position and alignment, then complete the weld. Hope this helps, Sherwood |
These are not my photos, but some I grabbed a long while ago from another thread when I installed Wevo's rear sway bar mounts on my car. I'd suggest having an actual sway bar and a transmission cross member/mount to mock-up before welding new mounts in for good - to help locate & verify that there's no interference etc...
Hope these help, Tom http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545061318.jpg |

Good Weld

Thanks for the responses. Just realizing that the fuel pump. Is in the way. I have a '72. How does the bracket get welded behind the fuel pump bracket?

Wish I could get mine half as good as that!!! :p:p |
Why not move your pump to the front? That is what I'm going to do. Thanks for posting those photos Tom
